Taking your daily vitamins and supplements is an important part of a healthy lifestyle. While this may seem like a simple enough task, all too often, we somehow forget to take them.
Here are a few tips to help you remember to take your vitamins and supplements every day:
1. Schedule a reminder
Set a specific time when you wish to take your vitamins everyday and set an electronic reminder just for this purpose. Whether it’s your phone, laptop, tablet, simply set daily reminders and alarms, which you can customise and make specific for your vitamins’ reminder. There are also many free apps out there designed specifically to streamline the reminder process, so you can see what works best for you.
2. Combine with a daily task
Rather than giving yourself a general time frame within which to take your vitamins (“morning”, “afternoon”, “evening”), combine this habit with any other task that you know you perform everyday – such as brushing your teeth, or having your breakfast, or taking your afternoon coffee.
The key is to choose a task that is realistic and that you are blindly committed to everyday.
3. Create a Morning/Evening Wellness Routine
This ties in with tip no. 2. Create a morning and/or evening routine centred upon wellness and self-care practices - which would involve the taking of your vitamins. Such practices could include drinking herbal tea, taking a bath, stretching, reading, meditating, or simply enjoying 10 or 15minutes of “you” time.
In this way, not only will you not forget to take your vitamins each day, but you will be committing to good, healthy habits to enhance your general well-being physically and mentally. Win/win!
4. Use a pillbox
This is extremely useful if you take multiple vitamins everyday and/or at different times of the day. By organising your weekly vitamins in a pillbox, you will only have to open one container per day, and there’s no need for any extra brainpower to calculate the dose and frequency of each vitamin or supplement, or to remember whether you in fact took your required dose for the day!
Just spend a few minutes filling each pillbox compartment once every week and you are literally set for the week ahead. The only downside is that vitamins or supplements in the form of liquids or powders can’t actually be added to a pillbox. But in these instances, look to the remainder of the tips and see which you can apply.
5. Prepare your vitamins night before
There’s no denying that preparation leads to success – whatever the goal. By preparing your vitamins the night before, you will have no excuse to forget to take them the next morning!
6. Store in a visible area
Instead of storing your vitamins in a cupboard, keep your vitamins and supplements in plain sight - for example on your bedside table, by your coffee-maker, or on your work desk. This will increase your chances of remembering to take them.
